Blog 36 Supplements.
The big supplement debate. I had been putting this off.
Do we need them or not..
Under 30 and with no medical conditions I’m going to say nope nothing in terms of enhancing performance within the gym. (If you do make sure you do your homework please)
Over 30 then maybe yes,
Body builder, physique competition where its your full time job then most definitely yes. These guys and girls require so much in the way of calories and trying to get it all in via eating is going to be virtually impossible alongside the amount of training they have to get in a day!!
The thing with supplements is how they should be and are used. The key to usage is in the name SUPPLEMENT. This does not mean add in instead of or subtract solid food with good quality nutrients. It means to take alongside a healthy, balanced diet. Christ it even tells you this on the label. On these labels you will also see the following most likely “this supplement is made from a good quality PROPRIETARY BLEND” (basically a cop out so they don’t need to tell you wants in there, chances are we wouldn’t know what the hell it is even if they did. But let me ask you this, if your a company wanting to make money are you going to maximise production costs or keep them to a minimum?? Tesco own prawn salad or some fancy french prawn salad?? To be honest when it comes down to fish meal always go more expensive just to be safe lol (personal opinion)
Weird examples I know but hopefully you got the idea.
The most important thing to do here before starting on any supplements, is to get into a routine. Start you training, Hit your water intake and manage your food and calories better and be damn consistent.
If after a few months then sure why not try supplements. The amount of 18 years and other youngsters I see in the gym, in a zombie type state due to pre workouts etc is insane.
Pre workout is definitely the first go to I would advise either by the way.
Use supplements to supplement your diet and regime. Hit the basic supplements once you have master the first hand basics that I’ve listed before (water, calories, sleep, training etc)
1, Good quality fish oil
2, Good quality probiotic
3, Good quality Magnesium
4, Good quality Zinc
5, If your in the UK most likely a good quality of D3
** NO I DONT SELL ANY, AND NO I WONT RECOMMEND ANY, PEOPLE GET PAID FOR THAT**
**PS I used to be one of those people who would use all of the above and everything else legal i could get my hands on, lol lessons learned but its taken a while.
This is enough for today, bloody supplements!!!
